Benjamin Berkman, J.D., M.P.H, is the Deputy Director of the O'Neill Institute for Global and National Law at Georgetown University Law Center and Senior Fellow at the Centers. Mr. Berkman is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center, and has also served as a consultant to an Institute of Medicine Committee examining the protection of prisoners in human subjects research.
Mr. Berkman received a Juris Doctor and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan Law. Previously, he received a Bachelors Degree in the history of science and medicine at Harvard University. He has worked for the American Medical Association Ethics Department, ABC News Medical Unit, and the Economic and Social Research Institute. Mr. Berkman studies a wide range of issues, focusing on bioterrorism, but also including mental health, genetics, human experimentation, organ donation, and medical malpractice tort reform.
Lainie Rutkow, J.D., M.P.H., is a Senior Fellow at the Centers for Law and the Public’s Health. She is also a Sommer Scholar and doctoral candidate in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and collaborator on several Center projects, including an analysis of the United States Supreme Court’s treatment of cases involving intimate partner violence.
Ms. Rutkow received a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and a Masters in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Previously, she received a Bachelors Degree with a double major in comparative literature and the history of medicine and science from Yale University. She is admitted to the bar in the State of New York. Prior to joining the Center, she worked with the American Civil Liberties Union and with the Legal Aid Society of New York’s Health Law Unit.
Ms. Rutkow studies a wide range of issues, including public health law and advocacy; injury prevention; vaccine policy; the regulation of corporations and its public health impact; and the history of public health law. She has published several articles in these fields.
Evan Anderson, J.D., is a Research Associate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Fellow at the Centers for Law and the Public’s Health. Mr. Anderson received his Juris Doctor from Temple University Beasley School of Law, and his Bachelors degree with a double major in economics and political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr.
Anderson is admitted to the bar in the states of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. During law school he worked on a number of public health and human rights oriented projects, and continues to study a wide range of issues, including harm reduction; international drug reform; international blood supply regulation; public health law in emergency contexts; and disaster preparedness.
